Betty Shearon has been on the Ford City Council for several years, so many in fact she can't remember when she was first elected to the position. But she's not ready to take a break yet, she's running once again for re-election this April.
"They talked me into running again," Shearon said jokingly of why she filed once more.
In reality Shearon has some big goals for her next term, if elected again.
"I want to continue to get the city back the way it should be," Shearon said. "Clean up properties that have fallen into disrepair, improve the streets and just make it a better town."
Shearon was born and raised just a few miles outside of Ford City. Once she grew up she moved away for several years. Finally, about 26 years ago she decided to move back to be closer to her family and her roots.
"It's a nice place to lie," She said about the area. "We have a nice home and we've spent a lot of time fixing it up, we're not about to leave now that we've put all this work in."
Shearon is recently retired, but she used to work at the General Store at Boot Hill Museum. She said her experience running the store helped her gain some valuable experience that carries over to the city council meetings.
