  • Andy Thompson was talked into running for Ford City Council for the first time by his friends.
"I was asked back in '07," he said, "but I didn’t think it was the right time. My wife and I talked for a long time before I filed for this election, and we both feel it's the right time now."
Thompson wasn't born and raised in Ford, or even in Kansas. He comes from Oklahoma and after he graduated high school he moved to Colorado working in federal service.
When he decided to retire, his wife's mother's house was sitting empty in Ford, where she was born and raised, and they decided to move there. Thompson's wife and oldest child even went to school in Ford before the building was closed down.
"It's home now," Thompson said of Ford.
According to Thompson, the friendliness of the people in Ford is what made it such a good place to live.
"Back in Denver, people don't even make eye contact with you, here it's completely different."
Thompson said he doesn't have an agenda or anything specific he hopes to work on if elected to the city council. He just felt it was time to offer his services to the community.
"I'm friends with everyone on the council already," Thompson said, "and I wouldn't be upset if I'm not elected. I just want to volunteer for my community."
