  • Steven Jay "Steve" Proehl, 57, died Monday, March 18, 2013 in Gray County. He was born on August 14, 1955 at Wichita, the son of Lester Ernest and Vera Katherine (Tietz) Proehl. He lived in the Ingalls and Pierceville areas early in his life, and graduated from Ingalls High School. He was a graduate of Garden City Community College. He married DeLoris Toothaker on February 14, 1976 at Cimarron. She survives. Steve worked for Hilker Hay Company, Cimarron. He enjoyed racing micro-midget cars, flying his own airplane, and hauling calves from Cedar Bluff Ranch. Survivors include wife DeLoris "Dee" Proehl, Cimarron; two daughters, Jennifer Wulf and husband Travis, Wichita, and DeAnna Schmidt and husband Chris, Garden City; his mother, Vera Proehl, Garden City; two brothers, Russell Proehl, Flor., and Allen Proehl, Holcomb; two sisters, Marjorie Frey, Emporia, and Naomi Holloway, Hutchinson; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry Proehl. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Cimarron First Christian Church on with Mr. David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be from noon til 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
