  • Tammie West is finishing up her first term on the USD 443 school board and excited about starting her second, if elected this April.
"I love children, and want to give them the best possible," West said. "I think the school district is moving in a great direction, and I'd also like to help it continue to do so."
Some of the ways West thinks the district is moving in the right direction include a board and administration that always look forward and moving into the future with the new iPad initiative. She also mentioned making sure that as the district grows, so do the schools and the number of educators and making sure kids are given as many opportunities to participate as possible.
"I think the addition of a second middle school was a great thing for us," West said. "It gives so many more students the chance to participate in sports and other academic clubs. And when kids participate more, they care more, they want to stay in school longer, and they tend to get better grades."
West has a son and daughter who have both now graduated from the district.
She currently works as the Executive Director of Ford County Kids Count, but before that she worked as a teacher and coach for the school district for 12 years.
"I really do love children and want to continue to work for what's in their best interest," West said.
