  • Big changes are coming to Weece Furniture Outlet. Last week, they got the 'OK' to go ahead with plans to convert the store into an Ashley Furniture HomeStore.
"We're really excited," store owner Don Weece said. "We're completely remodeling and changing everything for this transition."
The store will have a sale beginning this week to get rid of all their current inventory and make room for the remodel.
According to Weece, about two-thirds of all their sales are already Ashley or Sealy products, both of which will be sold in the new store.
"It's not that big of a transition when it comes to merchandise, but we need to get rid of our entire inventory before the change," Weece said.
All new products will be brought in once the remodel is complete.
Not only will new products be introduced, but the store itself will also be remodeled. Currently, there are two entrances to the store, but they will be combined into one bigger entrance. Sections will also be added inside to divide showroom space and change the flow of customer traffic. New paint and decor will also be brought in by Ashley.
"It's going to look great when it's all completed," Weece said.
Weece is planning to remodel one-third of the store at a time, so he can remain open throughout the transition. He said he hopes to have a grand opening in early fall.
"This is a great thing, not only for us but for Dodge City too," Weece said. "This will bring people from all over the area to Dodge and will be great for the economy."
Right now, the closest Ashley Furniture stores are in Hays and Wichita.
Weece is also going to be increasing staff once the new store is completed, helping the local economy and increasing the workforce.
Although Weece Furniture is becoming an Ashley Furniture outlet, the store will remain independent and locally owned.
"It's the best of both worlds," Weece explained. "We will still be the owners and operators of the store, but we will be under the 'Ashley umbrella' and have their support and resources behind us."
