  • Can Exercises for Cellulite Erase it For Good?

  • Former Fat Girl Lisa Delaney weighs in on whether losing weight and exercises for cellulite will ever get rid of the annoying jiggle.

  • DEAR FORMER FAT GIRL: I lost some weight crash dieting, but (of course) gained most of it back. Now my cellulite is worse. I am trying the slow, healthy method of losing weight, but I am wondering—can losing the weight, eating healthy and exercises for cellulite make it go away? I am in my mid 30's, and I would like to wear a bathing suit without feeling self-conscious.—Teri
DEAR TERI: You have picked one of my not-so-favorite subjects, because cellulite is, in fact, tough to get rid of if you’re one of the unfortunate ones to have it.  You might take a bit of solace in knowing that you’ve got LOTS of company: Estimates say some 90 percent of women are sporting skin that ranges from orange-peel puckered to cottage-cheese curded to mattress-top quilted. Unfortunately, the “haves”—including me, by the way—are surrounded by images of the “have-nots” in media (whether or not they’ve had a little help from Dr. Airbrush), making it harder to accept that we might just have to live with the stuff.
And that is, in fact, the case. Cellulite, caused by fat pushing through connective tissue so that the skin on top of it puckers and dimples, is difficult for women in particular to avoid. For one thing, it can be passed down from Mom to daughter, so if the women of your family have it, you’re likely to be affected too. Certain things, too, can make it worse, like crash dieting. But all of this doesn’t mean you should give up on trying to lose weight and get fit the healthy way. A healthy diet and exercises for cellulite—along with some strategic camouflaging—can minimize cellulite somewhat. I’ve covered this in a previous column called Exercises for Cellulite —no need to repeat it all here—so check it out. I hope it helps!
