  • School safety symposium to be held Monday

  • Southwest Plains Regional Service Center is hosting a school safety symposium at United Wireless Arena this Monday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $50 for a single person, $45 for groups of five or more from the same district and $40 per person for 10 or more people from the same district. A light continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be included.

  • Southwest Plains Regional Service Center is hosting a school safety symposium at United Wireless Arena this Monday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $50 for a single person, $45 for groups of five or more from the same district and $40 per person for 10 or more people from the same district. A light continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be included. Registration may be done the morning of the event or by visiting http://www.swprsc.org/vnews/display.v/SEC/Online%20Registration and filling in the online registration form.
    Featured speakers for the event include; Dr. Bob Hull and Jerry Tenbrink.
    Dr. Bob Hull is the director of Kansas Center for Safe and Prepared Schools. His role is to provide leadership and experience in forming initiatives that will sustain and improve the safe and prepared learning environments in Kansas schools.
    Jerry Tenbrink is the associate director of Kansas Center for Safe and Prepared Schools. In his role, he links the law enforcement community with other partners to further engage the security aspects of school preparedness.
    A variety of vendors will also be onsite.
    Topics that will be discussed include: all hazards approach to preparedness in schools, how to prepare Kansas schools for hazards and emergency incidents; school culture and climate update, updates on the ever changing landscape of climate and culture in Kansas schools; ipAssured defining network video migration, helping organizations cut through the technology confusion; school security, the top security issues facing schools today; school violence awareness, provides background information to plan and prepare for an active school shooter; teachers and guns; securing our children, seamless integration possibilities and much more.
