The Dodge City Red Demons improved their win streak to four games Thursday night with an 11-6 Western Athletic Conference road victory over the Garden City Buffaloes.
The victory pushes the Red Demons to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the league going into today's road doubleheader at Wichita Southeast.
Aaron Tieben and Collin Gifford went 3-for-4 with two RBIs apiece, while Andrew Balderaz brought in three and Austin Weiser brought in two for the win.
The Red Demons scored seven in the top of the second to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Gifford hit a RBI single, two more runs came in on bases loaded walks issued to Weiser and Balderaz, and Jordan Doan brought in a run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Gideon Wells added a run on a groundout and a Garden City error allowed the Demons to score the final two runs of the frame.
The Buffaloes scored a run in the bottom of the second and scored five more in the fourth inning — including a grand slam — to cut the margin to 7-6.
"We did a good job of staying with it," said DCHS baseball coach Daniel Rogers. "We knew they were going to come back and we did a good job of responding to that and that's what good teams do."
Dodge City scored two in the fifth on Balderaz two-run, two-out single with the bases loaded. The Red Demons added a run on a RBI single by Tieben; and closed the game on a RBI sacrifice fly by Weiser.
Weiser was the winning pitcher for the Demons in relief of Doan and improved his record to 2-0 on the season. Weiser threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on three hits and seven strikeouts.
