The Kansas Department of Transportation expects work on a pair of U.S. 50 resurfacing projects on the west and east sides of Cimarron to begin today, weather permitting. A state project outside the city limits at both ends of Cimarron is tied to a local project on the west side of town. Both projects call for milling the surface, followed by an asphalt overlay, according to a statement from KDOT.
The western portion extends from about 660 feet west of the west city limits to Ash Street. The eastern section begins at the east city limits and continues east approximately one-and-a-half miles.
During construction, traffic outside the city limits will be reduced to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car. Drivers can expect short delays and should remain alert to changing traffic patterns.
Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the primary contractor on both projects, at a cost of approximately $485,000. KDOT expects work to be completed by the end of May, depending on the weather.
