  • Maes knocks in nine to lead Lady Conqs' sweep

  • Makenzie Maes hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to seal a doubleheader sweep over Coffeyville in Region VI action Saturday at Legends Park.
    Maes hit three home runs and knocked in nine runs to lead the Lady Conqs to a 21-18 victory in the nightcap after Dodge City beat the Lady Ravens 16-11 in the first game. The centerfielder went 4-for-6 in the victory.
    Taylee Heckman was the winning pitcher in the second game and also hit a home run with four RBIs. Kayli Keate also hit a home run and brought in four runs in the victory.
    Dodge City (19-18, 15-13 region) scored in every inning but the fourth in recording the victory in the first game over Coffeyville.
    Amanda Best was 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs, while Keate also knocked in four with two doubles. Ashley Stephenson and Heckman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Stephenson scored four times in the game, while Maes touched home plate three times.
    Jaycee Morris was the winning pitcher for the Lady Conqs in the first game.
    The Lady Conqs will play their final home doubleheader at Legends Park of the season today at 3 p.m. against Cloud County.
    Labettte 8-6, Dodge City 0-5
    The Lady Cardinals gave up only two Dodge City hits in the first game of the doubleheader at Legends Park: a double by Keate and a single by Rio Beck.
    Labette scored the first six runs in the nightcap, then held off a furious rally in the nightcap.
    Dodge City scored single runs in the fifth and sixth on RBI singles, and Taylee Heckman hitting a three-run home run in the seventh. Heckman was the losing pitcher in both games.
