  • At Monday evenings regular City Commission meeting, commissioners elected the new Mayor and Vice Mayor.
"The Mayor and Vice Mayor are elected to a one year term," Nanette Pogue, city clerk said, "so they will serve from April 2013 to April 2014."
Kent Smoll was elected Mayor, and Brian Delzeit was elected Vice Mayor.
"Both positions are determined by a vote between the commissioners," Pogue said.
According to the City's website, Smoll was reelected to the commission in 2010 to serve a four-year term. Delzeit was elected to his first term just last April.
    In other business, the commission:
    • Held a public meeting to discuss a plan of finance for health care bonds issued from the City of Wichita for Presbyterian Manors, Inc. According to Pogue, two people were present to talk about the bonds, Jerry Korbe, executive director of Manor of the Plains, and Vernon Bogart. Korbe explained that by entering into an inter-local agreement with Wichita our local Manor of the Plains can receive a bigger bond with a better interest rate, among other benefits.
Later in the meeting, commissioners voted 4-0 in favor of a resolution authorizing the inter-local agreement.
    • Approved a resolution determining the advisability of making internal improvements to the Prairie Point development, which is located on east Comanche. Once the improvements are made, the cost will be paid back through special assessments against property.
    • Approved an agreement for engineering and design services from Burns and McDonnell for $27,434. The company will design the plans for repairs for the airport parking lot.
The next City Commission meeting will be held May 6.
