Wessel Iron & Supply has partnered with KDCB to offer a special Saturday opportunity in celebration of Earth Day for the disposal of metal items. From 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, they will be open to allow residents who find the work week a difficult time to clean their properties of unneeded metal items and take them to Wessel Iron at 803 E. Trail St. They are unable to accept aluminum cans which can be taken to the CREW recycle center at 716 E. Military.
Twice a year the Ford County household hazardous waste trailer is parked on the east side of the Civic Center to offer the convenient disposal opportunity for unwanted residential hazardous materials. From 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, residents can bring items such as paint products, automotive products, pesticides, herbicides, cleansers, batteries, etc. for safe disposal.
Also at the Civic Center this year will be the police department who will participate in the Prescription Take Back Day. Residents can turn in their unwanted/outdated prescription medications for safe disposal. This is an excellent opportunity to clean out medicine cabinets of prescription medications that are no longer needed, remove them from the home and have them safely disposed. It is no longer an acceptable practice to dispose of medications down the sink or stool. The police will be available from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Cargill Meat Solutions will also be hosting the annual riverbed cleanup. Volunteers should meet at the park shelter just east of the bandshell in Wright Park to pick up their t-shirt (for the first 250) and supplies at 9:45 am and be ready for the cleanup of litter that will begin at 10:00 am. Lunch provided by Cargill will be served following the cleanup. It is suggested that volunteers bring their own gloves.
Wessel Iron & Supply, Ford County Household Hazardous Waste, Police Department, Cargill Meat Solutions and Keep Dodge City Beautiful encourage residents to take advantage of this Saturday opportunity to help cleanup our residential properties as well as the riverbed.
