Albert A. Bayer, 86 of Garden City, Kansas died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at his home. He was born February 6, 1927 in Willowdale, Kansas the son of Nicholas & Catherine Elizabeth (Becker) Bayer.
Albert joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He worked in the flooring installation business where he later started his own carpet and tile business in 1971. He continued to own and operate his business until his retirement in 1991. Albert was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.
On February 19, 1953, he married Rosemary Butler in Breenbush, Kansas. She died in 1961. On July 25, 1964, Albert married Esther Jacobs in Garden City, Kansas. Esther died on January 21, 2009. Albert is also preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include three daughters Carolyn & husband Justin Banning of Dodge City, Ks., Joyce & husband Rick Briggs of Ulysses, Ks., & Melissa & husband Mike Klaus of Garden City, Ks.; one son Paul & wife Kim Bayer of Garden City, Ks.; two sisters Pauline Hahn of Garden City, Ks. and Helen Gahlen of Colwich, Ks.; three brothers Lawrence Bayer of Edmond, Ok., Henry Bayer of Holcomb, Ks., & Leo Bayer of Ft. Collins, Co.; eight grandchildren Justin Giskie, Denise James, Ashley Fryman, Sara Mannel, Alan Bayer, Rachelle Banning, Matthew Klaus, & Montana Klaus; and six great grandchildren Jesika James, Korbin James, Waylon James, Izabella Klaus, Jocelyn Mannel, & Hudson Fryman.
Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Buising as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
