  • Knowlton R. "K.R." Davis, Jr., 88, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.† He was born on January 15, 1925 at Schell City, Mo., the son of Knowlton R. and Ireta (Foreman) Davis, Sr.. Mr. Davis served in the US Navy during WWII and moved to Dodge City in 1947.† On June 13, 1948 he married Pauline Gerhardine Gerdes at Hope Lutheran Church in rural Ford County. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2008.† K.R. and Pauline farmed south of Dodge City for many years and also owned Davis Distributing for many years before moving to Dodge City.† He was a member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church of Dodge City and Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. of Dodge City. Mr. Davis is survived by a son, Col. Gary L. Davis and wife Kathy of Angel Fire, N.M.; a daughter, Barbara J. Davis of Indian Hills, Colo.; three granddaughters, Candice Davis, Leslie Waldman and husband Michael, and Shelby Golding; and two great-grandchildren.† He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dwain Davis; and daughter, Sheryl Sue Davis. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Turner presiding. Burial will follow at Christ The King Lutheran Cemetery in Ford County with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. and KSARNG Military Honors.† Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Swaim Funeral Home. † Memorials are suggested to Christ The King Lutheran Church or Kansas Soldiers Home in care of the funeral home.† Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.†
