DCHS ends regular season with 4-game win streak, Sanchez breaks single season home run record
The Dodge City Lady Demons will go into next week's regional on a roll after beating Elkhart by scores of 12-5 and 18-3 Thursday afternoon at Legends Park for a four-game winning streak to close out the regular season.
The second game went four innings due to the run rules.
It's about as good a position for the Lady Demons to be going to the regional in since they had already known before the doubleheader that they would be the No. 11 seed in the 12-seeded, three bracket regional. The team will find out Saturday where and when they will play.
"At the end of the season, it's nice to have momentum going into regionals," said DCHS head coach Heather Steiner. "The girls feel pretty confident and they should. We had more home runs in one day than we'd ever had and we had a lot of confidence at the plate and in the field."
Alexis Sanchez broke the school record for home runs for a season in the second game, hitting her fifth of the season. Riley Lopp and Alyssa Bogner also hit home runs in the nightcap to key the victory.
