  • The Darrel Williams Memorial Photography Contest and Exhibit is now in it's 25th year. It honors the memory and work of Darrel Williams, a livestock recruiter and photographer for the High Plains Journal for 10 years.
    Williams enjoyed photography, especially the prairie and rural landscapes here in Southwest Kansas.
    This contest honors his work and efforts to help amateur photographers get their start.
    Here are the winners for the 2013 contest:
    Best In Show Darrel Williams Award – “Cucumber Beetle” by Scott Reiter
    People First Place – “Trail of Honor” by Dave Tarter
    People Second Place – “Big Fish” by Bob George
    Realism First Place – “Cliché” by Scott Reiter
    Realism Second Place – “Wild Flowers in Liberal” by Laura Tawater
    Computer Manipulated First Place – “Sweet Lily” by Rebecca Cornitius-Reed
    Student Winners – this is new.
    First Place – “Begonia on a Rainy Day” by Cortney Toothaker
    Second Place – “South Dakota” by Cortney Toothaker
    Third Place – “YES” by Dasha Storehai
    Other Participants included Teresa Lovitt and Brenda Cornitius. Several of the Photographs are on sale at the Carnegie Center for the Arts, located at the corner of Spruce and Second. Please join us for the Awards Presentations during Final Friday celebration on May 31st.
