County Commissioners discussed the sale of fireworks for the 2013 season during a work session at their meeting Monday evening.
No formal action was taken, as it was just part of the work session, but as of this time it seems that vendors will be able to sell fireworks this summer.
"We've had several of our regular vendors call in and ask if they can sell," County Clerk Sharon Seibel said. "So the commissioners decided to discuss the issue."
A formal decision may be made at a later date after talking to county fire officials and depending on how much moisture we receive.
In other business the commission:
• Learned that two positions are going to expire at the end of June on the Ford County Zoning Board. One member, Josie Lix has decided to remain on the board, while Tom Stanly has decided to step down. The zoning director will accept applications to fill the position, review them and make a recommendation to the commission on who should be appointed.
• Heard a proposal for sand to purchase from Rod Killian with Killian Sand Co. LLC. However, commissioners have already made their decision on who to purchase sand from for this year. So, Killian Sand will be included on bids for next year's sand purchase.
• Commissioner Danny Gillum asked the commission for permission to coordinate with the county to use the shooting range as part of his classes he teaches at Dodge City Community College. Gillum is the vice president of innovation and workforce development at the college.
The next County Commission meeting will be held June 17 at 6 p.m.
