  • The agenda for Monday's City Commission meeting was light, but the subject matter was of high importance; discussing filling the commission seat vacated by Jim Sherer when he passed away last month.
"There was a lot of discussion, about what should happen," City Clerk Nanette Pogue said, "but Commissioner Sowers moved that Jim Lembright should be appointed, and Commissioner Warshaw seconded the motion."
Before the decision was made, commissioners discussed whether it was too soon to fill the vacant seat, but they felt that because there are important items coming up on the agenda, it was important to fill the seat as soon as possible.
According to Pogue, Lembright will fill the seat for the remaining 10 months in Sherers' term, then an election will be held to find a replacement, which Lembright may run in if he chooses.
"The commissioners went with Jim Lembright because he has served on the commission before, and felt it would be best to bring someone in who already has a background in serving on the commission," Pogue said.
Lembright was not available for comment as of press time.
The next City Commission meeting will be held June 17 at 7 p.m.
