  • It's time once again for the Main Street Festival, a great way for the whole family to celebrate the start of summer and have fun here in downtown Dodge.
The festival will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Sunday, June 9, along 1st and 2nd avenues from El Capitan to Spruce Street.
"We're really excited to bring this event back again this year," Main Street Dodge City Director Chelsey Dawson said. "Last year we had about 1,000 people come out, and we hope even more do this year."
Tons of entertainment will be on hand throughout the event including; Jeff Mooradian of Ask Vinnie, Janet's All Star Cheerleading, Gymnastics and Dance, a Spanish dance group, the Can-Can dancers and more will all be performing.
Plenty of games will also be available for children of all ages. Carnegie Center for the Arts will be holding a chalk art competition, there will be a bounce house and several other carnival games.
Two lucky kids will win bikes donated from United Way.
And of course there will be plenty of food to enjoy.
But, perhaps the most anticipated event of the evening will be the Q97 Great Quack Attack. Hundreds if not thousands of rubber ducks will flood the street and race through a river down 1st Ave., provided by volunteers from the fire department, and the duck that finishes first will win it's owner some great cash prizes.
According to Richard Falcon, the organizer of the event, the river will be longer then ever this year. Starting at Spruce and running down to Front Street.
Duck lease numbers may be purchased from the Alley or 4-H and all money raised will benefit both of those organizations. Cost of the ducks are one for $10 or a six "quack" for $50. Lease numbers may be purchased until one hour before the event, which takes place at 7:30 p.m.
The grand prize winner of the race will receive $6,000, if present, $3,000 if not. Second place will win $3,000 if present at the race, $1,500 if not. Third place will win $1,600 if present, $800 if not. Fourth place will win $700, present at the race or not, fifth place, $600, sixth place, $500, seventh place, $400, eighth place, $300, ninth place $200 and tenth place will receive $100.
"The Great Quack Attack is a fun event that all community members really enjoy," Dawson said. "And, whether you win or lose, you're helping to support some great community organizations."
This is the third year that Main Street Dodge City has put this event together, and each year it's more successful than the previous year.
"This is just a fun way for the whole family to do something together and kick off the summer season," Dawson said. "Plus we want to showcase all the great things that are here in our downtown."
