The Liberal BeeJays sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning and never looked back in beating the Dodge City Athletics 15-0 in Jayhawk League action at
The BeeJays scored seven runs in the frame — helped by two Dodge City errors — and the Athletics never recovered, losing their six straight league game.
The first run came on a Dodge City fielding error by second baseman Scott Loper, followed by a RBI single by Seth Stevens. Liberal got three more runs on the play when rightfielder Luke Lucchetti misplayed Stevens' hit to clear all the bases for a 5-0 lead.
Tanner Dearman closed out the Liberal opening frame scoring on a two-run single.
Dodge City starting pitcher Hasten Freeman recorded only one out and was charged with all seven of the runs (four earned) against the Athletics (2-6, 0-6 Jayhawk), giving up three hits and two walks.
Liberal (8-3, 5-3) scored three more runs in the bottom of the second. Stevens hit a RBI double and later scored on a fielding error on first baseman Louis Diaz on a ball hit by Tanner Kirk. Kirk later scored on a groundout by Sam Pack.
The Beejays made the score 11-0 on a RBI single by Reding. Liberal scored three more in the fifth on a two-run double by Darien McLemore and a sacrifice fly by Austin Murphy; and Reding hit a home run to open the seventh inning and finish the scoring.
