The Dodge City Athletics' two-game win streak was snapped Sunday night in an 8-1 decision to the Derby Twins at Cavalier Field. The game ended in the top of the ninth after a severe thunderstorm hit the area. The Athletics (4-9, 2-9 Jayhawk) scored only in the fifth inning on a RBI fielders' choice by Scott Loper after Dodge City was able to load the bases, The home team recorded only three hits off Derby pitching. Twins' starter Kevin Willman gave up all three hits and the earned run in seven innings of work to record the win on the mound. Derby scored six runs in four innings off Dodge City starter Cody Brown. The Twins (6-6, 5-5) scored three in the first on a RBI double by Jason McMurray, a single by Dylan Boston and a sacrifice fly by Stephen Carbajal. The Twins made it 4-0 in the second when Travis Garcia-Perriera walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Derby made it 6-0 on back-to-back home runs by Kyle Bilbrey and Drew Luther. The final two runs for the visitors came on wild pitches issued Athletics' reliever Michael Hadden with runners at third base. The Athletics will start a four-game homestand against the Denver Cougars tonight at 7 p.m. The two teams will meet for single games each night until Thursday.
