As of the beginning of this month the United States has been hit by 478 tornados. The Moore/Newcastle, Oklahoma tornado, which hit on May 20, was the first EF5 rated tornado for 2013 with winds reaching 322 miles per hour. At least 13,000 homes were destroyed or damaged and the damage has been estimated at over $2 billion dollars. Over 39,000 people were affected by this tornado alone.
The El Reno, Oklahoma tornado, which hit May 31, was also rated as an EF5, making the two tornados the closest EF5's to touch down in Oklahoma ever. This was the widest tornado on record, measuring 2.6 miles wide. Wind speeds reached 285 miles per hour. Twenty deaths have been associated with this tornado and the damage estimates are at $30 million.
"The Knights really want to help to tornado victims in Oklahoma," Burke said. "So, we hope a lot of people come out to enjoy tacos and help our fundraiser."
