    Alpine Living Center, Thornton.
    He was born March 11, 1922 the son of John and Clara Belle Hempill Perona.  He attended Emporia State University and for 40 years was an administrator for Standard Beverage of Wichita and Colby Distributing Company of Dodge City and Colby, Kansas, retiring January 1, 1990.
    He served in the United States Army during WWII attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant.  He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving in Normandy.  He also received the Combat Infantry Badge among others.
    He was a former member of Ascension On The Prairie Episcopal Church, Colby
    and a life member of the DAV Chapter 13 and VFW Post 1520, receiving the Elmer Jenkins Award from the Department of Kansas VFW for 1999-2000.  He was a 55 year member of the American Legion Post 107 and a 50 year member of Lion International, receiving Lion of the Year Award in 1997.  He was a member of AMVETS Post 1890 of Ft. Dodge, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Salina and SCORE.  He also served on the advisory board for the Salvation Army.
    On June 30, 1946 he married Myrna Jean Samples at Emporia, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on July 11, 2001.
    Survivors include: a son, John “Joco” and wife Donna, Independence, Missouri; 2 daughters, Jeannie Dayton, Mesa, Arizona and Joy Perona, Thornton; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
    He was also preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters.
    Memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Ft. Dodge Chapel, with  Vernon Bogart officiating.  Inurnment will be at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery Ft. Dodge with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.  There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.  Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
