The Dodge City Athletics still cannot find an answer to slow down the Jayhawk League leading Hays Larks so far this season.
The Larks beat the Athletics 7-1 at Larks Park to improve their league lead to four games at the midway point of the season. Dodge City has lost all four games to the Larks so far in 2013.
Hays (16-3, 13-3) opened up scoring in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Jake Placzek off losing pitcher Jevin Huval. The Larks made the score 4-0 after five innings on a groudout by MacKenzie Handle and a two-run double by Brett Lang off reliever Chad Reiser.
Dodge City (8-12, 4-10) got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Joe Haddox hit a double and later scored on a single by Zach Jacobs. Hays came back with two in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch and a single by Clayton Garland.
The Larks' final score came in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Zair Koeiman.
Dodge City travels to Liberal for another Jayhawk League game. The game is scheduled to start around 7 p.m.
