  • On Tuesday afternoon, a new postmaster was installed at the Dodge City Post Office, Dorothy Briseno, a 27 year post office employee, replaced former postmaster, Mario Saucedo who has taken a position at a different post office.
"I'm excited to take this new position," Briseno said.
Although the official swearing in and celebration took place this week, Briseno has actually been acting postmaster since June 15.
Briseno started at the Montezuma Post Office back in 1993 as a clerk. Over the years she was promoted until she became the postmaster, a position she held for 19 years.
Last October, she came to the Dodge City Post Office as an Officer In Charge or OIC. When Saucedo announced he was leaving, she applied for his position, was interviews and hired.
"I'll be in charge of everything in the office," Briseno said of her new position. "I'm responsible for all operations here in Dodge City."
Recent consolidations in post offices across the country have made the work Briseno must do more difficult, but getting ready for some new changes have also be challenging.
"We're getting ready for even more changes," Briseno said, "but that's all I can say right now. When it gets closer I'll be able to say more."
Born and raised here in Dodge City, when she's not working Briseno enjoys going to the lake with friends and family, and participating in the many clubs and organizations she's involved with.
