  • Irene Reynolds Shultz, 91, died June 28, 2013 at Ashland Health Center, Ashland. She was born on August 8, 1921 at Dighton, Kansas the daughter of Pete and Hattie  (Hockaday) Owen Haney. Irene grew up to womanhood in the Dighton and Dodge City communities.
    On July 21, 1940 she married Leo Reynolds and they established their home in Wilroads Gardens raising three children; Barbara Crowder, Roger Reynolds and Cleo Reynolds.
    After Leo's untimely death on February 7, 1969, she married Worley T. Shultz in the early 1970's, acquiring two other children, Lane Shultz and Kathleen Alps whom she dearly loved.
    Wife, mother, helpmate, Irene worked at Gibson's Pharmacy until joining her husband running Shultz Jewelry in Dodge City. Upon retirement they moved to Ashland where they enjoyed fishing at Clark State Lake. In recent years, Worley and Irene made their home at Ashland Retirement Center where they enjoyed a wonderful life with extremely caring staff.
    She was attended Wilroads Gardens Christian Church of Wilroads Gardens.
    Irene is survived by her husband Worley T. Shultz, Ashland; two sons Roger Reynolds, Wilroads Garden and Lane Shultz Mannford, Oklahoma; two daughters, Barbara Crowder of Durango, Colorado and Kathleen Alps of Longmont, Colorado; a daughter in law Annie Reynolds, Taos, New Mexico; two brothers, Tracy Owen of Indiana and Mickey Owen, California; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Leo Reynolds and a son Cleo Reynolds in 2010.
    Graveside service will be held at Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding.  There will be no visitation , however the casket will be opened at the cemetery from 9:30 AM to service time. Memorials are suggested to Ashland Health Center  in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
