The Dodge City Athletics took the early lead but eventually were shut down by the El Dorado Broncos 9-2 in Jayhawk League action Friday night at Cavalier Field.
Jake Straub gave the Broncos a run in the top of the first before the Athletics came back with two runs on a two-run home run by Andrew Bynum.
The Broncos scored in five straight innings to take control of the game.
El Dorado tied the game in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Thomas Clay; then took a 4-2 lead on a RBI single by Jose Rosado, followed by a run-scoring double by Thomas Clay.
Straub hit a RBI sacrifice fly and a second run came in on a Dodge City error to increase the led to 6-2 in the sixth.
Clay brought in another Broncos' run in the seventh on a home run and a run-scoring single by Tyler Ware in the eighth made the score 8-2. El Dorado's final run came on a wild pitch in the ninth.
Cameron Reynolds, the third of six pitchers used by the Athletics (10-13, 5-11), was the losing pitcher for Dodge City, giving up four runs (one earned), three hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Aaron Blair, the second Dodge City hurler, threw 3 2/3 innings and struck out 10 during his time on the mound.
Jake Luebbe threw five innings to earn the victory on the mound for El Dorado (13-8, 10-8), while Joshua Moore threw the final four for the Broncos to pick up the save.
The two teams play again tonight at 7 p.m. at Cavalier Field.
