Hydration is important during the summer.

Despite the warm summer temperatures, children will want to play outside. Activities may include playing in the backyard, visiting the local water park or hanging out at the school playground. No matter what the activity, it's important to keep one's body hydrated. Water is the best option and can be easily transported using a water bottled purchased at the local store or by filling a reusable water bottle or thermos.

Water plays a important part of our heatlhly daily diet. Sixty percent of our body is composed of water, providing for healthy hair, skin and nails. It also controls our heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.

Remember to keep your body hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. If "plain" water gets boring, try adding a slice of lemon, orange or lime. For an additional twist, I enjoy adding crushed mint. Several foods are also high in water and are great options to keep kids hydrated. My favorite is watermelon. Other options include honeydew, cantaloupe, cucumbers and celery.

Whatever you do, remember to keep your body hydrated to prevent fatigue, headaches and moodiness. Water consumption should occur throughout the day. If you are sweating, you are loosing water. Follow up by drinking an 8 ounce glass of water every 20-30 minutes and your body will thank you!
