  • Ronald Lee McKnight, died July 1, 2013 at his home in Dodge City, Kansas, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. He was born on March 1, 1934 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Cecil and Catherine (Vanderswag) McKnight.

  • Ronald Lee McKnight,  died July 1, 2013 at his home in Dodge City, Kansas, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old.  He was born on March 1, 1934 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Cecil  and Catherine  (Vanderswag) McKnight.
    Ron served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He attended Anderson College, Anderson Indiana. He began working at McDonalds in 1957 and worked at McDonalds in Indiana, Georgia, New Mexico, and Kansas until retiring in 2005. Ron also worked two years at a Bonanza restaurant in California.
    Ron was a member of the First Church of God, Dodge City, and loved doing junior sermons. He also enjoyed gardening, visiting the sick, and baking and taking birthday cakes to many surprised people.
    On September 22, 1962, Ron married Delores Fields in Terre Haute, Indiana. She survives.
    Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
    Survivors include his wife Delores (Dee) McKnight, and his children, Aaron McKnight of Dodge City, Dan McKnight and wife Sherrie Dryer of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Ellen Ellis of Dodge City and Philip McKnight, of Dodge City, one sister, Marilyn Hinton and her husband Truman of Kentwood, Michigan, eight grandchilden, and ten great grandchildren.
    Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Darrell Hendrickson presiding.  Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Fort Dodge with military rites provided by Howard Gotschall Post 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dodge City .  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M..  Memorials are suggested to First Church of God, Dodge City. in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
