Country singer Randy Travis has been hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to his rep.
The Grammy winner, 54, was admitted to a Texas hospital Sunday after suffering complications from a recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy, a condition caused by a viral infection in the heart. The infection weakens the heart, making it unable to work as well as it should.
Travis has most recently been in the news for legal issues. In February 2012, Travis was arrested for public intoxication. Six months later, he was booked on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and retaliation against law enforcement officials when he was found lying on a Texas road unclothed and smelling of alcohol after crashing his car. He eventually pleaded guilty to the August accident in January 2013 and received a $2,000 fine, a 180-day suspended jail sentence and two years of probation.
