On the evening of July 10, 2013, at the conclusion of a three-day jury trial, Jose Perez-Aguilera was convicted of three crimes and acquitted of five other crimes by the jury of eight women and four men.
The Defendant was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child, each of which carry a penalty of life in prison which results in the Defendant having to serve 25 calendar years in prison before he would be eligible to apply for parole. The Defendant was also found guilty of Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness which has a possible penalty of between 17 months and 46 months in prison, depending on the defendant’s criminal history. The jury acquitted the Defendant of
Rape and four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy. The victim in this case was a female from Dodge City, KS, who is currently 12 years of age. This case was prosecuted by Ford County Attorney, Natalie K. Randall, and by Assistant Ford County Attorney, David Belling. At the conclusion of the trial the Defendant’s bond was revoked and he was taken into custody. Sentencing will be held after the preparation of a Presentence Investigation Report, which usually takes about 45-60 days.
