The Liberal BeeJays hit two grand slams in the first three innings on the way to a 10-5 victory over the Dodge City Athletics in Jayhawk League action Wednesday night at Cavalier Field.
BeeJays' catcher Sam Pack had the first inning grand slam, while Tanner Kirk cleared the bases in the third with his shot over the fence in the third as the BeeJays beat Dodge City for the fifth time in seven games this season.
All 10 runs were scored off Athletics' starter Ryan Petersen. Petersen gave up nine hits and two walks while striking out three. Nine of the 10 runs were earned.
Kirk scored Liberal's first run when he singled and later scored on an error by Dodge City third baseman Dillon Engelhart. Pack later hit his home run to push the BeeJays ahead 5-0 after a half-inning.
Dodge City (15-21, 8-18) came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Engelhart and a two-run home run by Andrew Bynum.
Pack got another RBI in the third before Kirk hit his grand slam to increase the margin to seven for the BeeJays (17-16, 13-16).
The Athletics concluded the scoring with a RBI double by Cody Voelker and a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Scott Loper.
Cody Tillotson was the winning pitcher for Liberal.
The Athletics battle at Liberal tonight before hosting a three-game league series against the Wellington Heat.
