  • The Dodge City Rangers recorded a doubleheader sweep over the Great Bend Chiefs in late Tuesday night American Legion action at Demon Field. The Rangers shut out the Chiefs 12-0 in six innings to win the opener and completed the sweep with a 2-1 decision for their third win on their last at-bat in two nights. The second game went five innings because of the late night travel the Chiefs had after the game. Austin Weiser was the winning pitcher for the Rangers in the opener. Weiser gave up four hits and struck out four in throwing the complete game. Dodge City (29-5) scored four in the first on a two-run single by Drew Chance after Grant Meininger hit a run-scoring single and Jordan Doan knocked in a run on a groundout. The Rangers made it 5-0 in the second when Weiser singled, stole second base and scored on a RBI single by Andrew Balderaz. The lead went to 8-0 in the fourth on a RBI single by Collin Gifford and two-run single by Hunter Ontiberos. The final runs came in the sixth on a RBI fielders' choice by Balderaz, followed by bases-loaded walks issued to Meininger, Gifford and Ontiberos. Great Bend scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning and held off the Rangers until the bottom of the fifth when Davis singled and scored on a double by Weiser. On the play, the Chiefs tried to get Weiser out at third base; but the throw sailed out into leftfield, allowing Weiser to score the winning run. Balderaz allowed the unearned run, three hits and a walk while striking out three to earn the five-inning complete victory.
