The first-annual Taste of the Wild West event was held last year during Dodge City Days to give residents and visitors alike the opportunity to try some of southwest Kansas’ diverse culinary offerings. In addition, a wide-variety of vendors were on hand to offer everything from arts and crafts to clothes to jewelry to furniture and more. This year, the Taste of the Wild West event is scheduled to take place at the United Wireless Arena, August 2nd at 2 p.m.
According to Sharon Stroburg, the event organizer and general manager of Boot Hill Casino and Resort, last year's inaugural Taste of the Wild West exceeded expectations.
“Last year’s event was a huge success. We received positive feedback from the community and are excited to bring this event back to Dodge City Days,” she said.
Stroburg is planning to raise the bar this year by offering more of what made it attractive to visitors last year. “We are planning to expand on last year’s success. You can expect more entertainment, more vendors and vendor selection, and even more time to enjoy everything,” Stroburg said.
This year’s entertainment line-up includes Billy and Kari, the Wes Cosman Band, the Boot Hill Museum Variety show, and the Jared Daniels Band.
The Jared Daniels Band, a group comprised of native Kansans, formed during the members’ college years at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Daniels said the inspiration for the group’s brand of “red dirt” and Texas style country music were the many musical acts of those genres that played in venues around Manhattan.
Concert goers will have the chance to see a band of Kansas origin that is on the verge of nation-wide fame. The Jared Daniels Band will play in Dodge City just days before its debut single “Foot on the Dashboard” is released nationally and before the group’s national radio tour begins.
