The Dodge City Athletics squandered a five-run lead to fall to the Liberal BeeJays 6-5 in Jayhawk League action Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field.
It was the eighth straight league loss for the Athletics (15-27, 8-24) with two games left on the regular season schedule.
Dodge City scored two runs in the first with Woody Drexler opening the game with a home run and a run-scoring single by Brian Mills. The Athletics made the score 3-0 in the third on a RBI single by Brian Romero.
The score margin increased to 5-0 on fifth inning RBI singles by Romero and Cole Davis.
Liberal (25-17, 17-17) got on the board in the seventh inning on a RBI double by Seth Stevens and a RBI groundout by Lewis Guillbeau. The BeeJays then scored four on a RBI double by Wigberto Nevarez, a sacrifice fly by Tyler Floyd and a two-run double by Guillbeau.
The Athletics had a final chance to win the game or send it to extra innings, but left the potential tying and winning runs at third and second, respectively.
Athletics' starter Chad Reiser threw six innings of shutout ball, giving up three hits and three walks while striking out six during his time on the mound. Ty Thomas was the losing pitcher for Dodge City.
Jose Rosales-Rodarte was the winning pitcher for the BeeJays. Chad Nack recorded the save.
