  • Vonda  J. Sanders, 72, died August 2, 2013 at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on November 14, 1940 at Oak Valley, Kansas the daughter of John and Louise  (Beck) Smith.
    Vonda graduated from Pratt High School. She then received a bachelors degree in social work from St. Mary Of The Plains College in Dodge City where she was a member of Sigma Beta Phi Sorority. She worked as a social worker for Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City for 20 years. Vonda married Robert C. "Bob" Sanders on December 20, 1959 in Pratt. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2011.
    She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, Ford County Democratic Women’s Party, Relay for Life and Kansas Social Workers.
    Vonda is survived by her son John Sanders and wife Carol of Dodge City; a sister Neva Shaw of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister-in-law and husband Marge and Carter Barker of Pratt; granddaughter Rianann Sanders, Littleton, Colorado; grandson Anthony McPhail and wife Adrian of Cimarron; three great grandchildren Zachary,  Alivia and Lillian McPhail and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son Robert Sanders.
    Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Pratt Cemetery in Pratt.   Cremation has taken place and friends may sign the guest book at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City from 9 AM to 5 PM. Friday, August 9, 2013. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
