  • Frances Corlene Stanley, 86, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Alterra Sterling House, Dodge City. Frances was born on November 1, 1926 at Ness City, the daughter of Elmer Century Martin and Rose Margaret (Norton) Martin. Her father died when she was three years old. Rose then married Ward Morehead.
    Frances attended elementary school in Lane County and graduated from high school in 1944. She attended Fort Hays College and then taught at Pendennis, until meeting the love of her life, Rex E. Stanley.
    Frances and Rex were married June 8, 1947. They had six children which were her pride and joy. Frances and Rex farmed with Rex's brother Jack until he went into the feedlot business.
    They were members of the First Christian Church of Dodge City. Frances was also involved in many organizations including P.E.O., 4-H, Elks Club, Farm Bureau and a quilting club. Her passion was gardening, cooking, sewing and hand quilting.
    Frances is survived by her children, Dennis Stanley and wife Carol, Dodge City, Diana Moser, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lynda Saling, Portland, Oregon, Lana Hodes, Lenexa, Rita Schlosser, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Ronnie Stanley and wife Sandra, Dodge City; three sisters, Bessie Tucker, Houston, Texas, Tressa Neumann, Dodge City and Jane Huxman, Russell; sisters in law, Ellen Mae Stanley and Helen Stanley both of Dighton and Pat Stanley, Dodge City. Frances had 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Stanley and her parents.
    Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church, Dodge City on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. with Dr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or to First Christian Church, both in care of the funeral home.
