USD 382 will hold auditions for its fall musical, Disney's Little Mermaid Jr. open to all students in the district and their family members who are in grades K-12. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 and 5 in LMS Auditorium.
Those interested should bring a list of specific scheduling conflicts, plus they should be prepared to sing, dance, and act.
The stage musical follows the Disney movie fairly closely, although a few differences occur in the second act especially. To know the roles, the story, and most of the songs, view the Disney movie. Favorite songs include "Under the Sea," "Part of Your World", and "Kiss the Girl". Large roles include Ariel, King Triton, Sebastian, Flounder, Scuttle, Prince Eric, Ursula, and Flotsam and Jetsam.
This is a large-cast show, so there are parts for all ages and types. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, Sept. 15th at 2 p.m. with four to five rehearsals weekly for large parts and one to three rehearsals weekly for smaller roles. The show will be performed on Nov. 14, 15, and 16.
Music Theatre International has created a line of musicals, called Broadway Junior, which are adapted for youth up to 18 years of age. This musical, while a Broadway Junior show, still holds all of the major roles and songs, and will be a large-cast show following the plot line of the original movie and stage musical.
