  • Ricks, Convicted of two felonies

  • Dodge City resident Thomas E. Ricks, who was charged with the attempted murder of Barbara and Amanda Hileman in 2011, was convicted of two felonies, Wednesday, Aug. 28 in Ford County District Court.
    Ricks was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery, both of severity level five, and one count of aggravated assault, a level seven person felony.

    Ricks was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery, both of severity level five, and one count of aggravated assault, a level seven person felony.
    According to Assistant Ford County Attorney David Belling, sentences for level five felonies can range from 31 months to 136 months of jail time, depending on the defendant's criminal history, and the level seven can range from 11 to 34 months. Sentencing has been scheduled for a later date.
    Ricks was initially charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder; two counts of attempted second-degree murder; an alternative count of aggravated battery; one count of criminal discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated endangering a child.
    Criminal discharge of firearm and two counts of aggravated endangering a child was dismissed.
    The victims in this case included three family members, Amanda and Barbara Hileman in connection with the aggravated battery count and Willis Hileman in connection with the aggravated assault count.
    Bells said Rick's pending case that included battery against a corrections officer or employee and two counts of attempted battery against a corrections officer or employee was dismissed as part of a plea negotiation.
