Harold Dean “Naz” Nazarenus, 79, died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at his home in Dodge City.
He was born, May 14, 1934 on the family farm south of Bazine, Kansas in Ness County to Alex and Marie Wagner Nazarenus.
He attended the Joint One Country School as a boy and Bazine High School, graduating in 1952. After high school he worked in construction doing curb and gutter projects around the area. In 1954 he moved to Dodge City to work on the construction of the Civic Center, a job he would never forget. In 1958 he began working for Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co. This began a long career in the freight business. In 1978 he leased to Winters Freight Line and Dugan Freight Line. Harold loved the cattle business and devoted most of his spare time to this. He attended the First Missionary Church and his faith was very important to him.
On August 26, 1956 he married Marjory Tomlinson at Garfield, Kansas.
Survivors include: His wife; son, Corbin Nazarenus and wife Terri, Dodge City; daughter, Amy Nichols and husband Kelly, Dodge City; brother, Oliver Nazarenus, Buffalo, Missouri; sister, Lorene DeGroat and husband Jim, Cleburne, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Cody Nichols and wife Whitney, Wichita, Kayla Strickler and husband Duell, Dodge City, Treva Van Auken and husband Brady, Maize, Jared Nichols and wife Janelyn, Cimarron and Alex Nazarenus, Dodge City; great grandchild, Kinlee Marie Strickler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Pauline Nazarenus and sister-in-law, Althea Nazarenus.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, September 9, 2013 at First Missionary Church, 1310 Ave. C, Dodge City with Pastor Jeff Turner, officiating. Friends may call from noon to 6:00 pm Sunday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow the service and private family burial will be held at a later date in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.
