  • The Knights of Columbus will be hosting their sixth annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Knights of Columbus complex at 800 W. Frontview St. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to midnight. The public is invited to attend the event, which will feature German food, a beer garden and kids play area with entertainment from Water’s True Value. Big screen TVs from Aaron’s Sale & Lease will be placed in the beer garden so patrons can watch football games. At 1 p.m., patrons can enjoy a horse shoe pitching tournament for $5. Two polka bands will play throughout the day, with The Blue Notes starting at noon and The Hot Shots starting at 4 p.m. From 8 p.m. until midnight, the David Holland Band from Wichita will play. Those who come to the event in an Oktoberfest style costume will receive one dollar off the $6 price of admission. Children under 12 are admitted for free. Prizes for the best dressed will be awarded. The Knights of Columbus are hosting the event to raise money in support of the different charities to which they donate throughout the year, including Catholic Social Services, Manna House and Boy Scouts of America. According to Head of Organization for this year’s Oktoberfest Bob Cox, the event usually sees about 1,000 people. “Every year everybody gets excited about it,” Cox said. Carry out food orders for the event can be placed by Thursday, Sept. 26, by calling 620-255-4000. For more information on this year’s Oktoberfest, call 620-225-1421 or 620-255-5834.
