  • Numana will hold a soup day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the National Guard Armory at 2120 1st Ave. Proceeds from the event will go toward buying food for the undernourished in Haiti. Admission to the event costs $6 and food will include soup, chili, cinnamon rolls and cookies. Perennials and houseplants will also be for sale through Master Gardeners of Ford County. Every 25 cents earned at the event will go toward buying a meal for one Haitian. Purchased food will include rice, soy beans and vitamins and will be packed at a packing event on November 9 at the Dodge City Civic Center. “It’s really heartwarming to know that the food is going to save a child or at least give him a good meal,” Norma Henton, volunteer coordinator for Numana, said. Henton said Numana is preparing for 500 people to attend the event on Thursday, which is about the number of people who have attended the fundraiser each year since its inception four years ago. The packing event usually draws 1,000 to 1,500 people. Numana was founded in El Dorado, Kan., in 2009. To date it has hosted 140 events with 155,000 volunteers. There will be another fundraising event in Dodge City on Oct. 26, when Numana holds an auction at the 4-H building. “It’s really an easy way to empower people to help save the starving of the world,” Henton said.
