Dodge City- UNITED WIRELESS ARENA is proud and excited to announce Dwight Yoakam will perform Saturday , November 2, 2013 at 7:30 pm. Few entertainers have attained the iconic status of Dwight Yoakam, and Southwest Kansas now has the opportunity to hear this legend in person. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10am.
Dwight Yoakam has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, placing him in an elite group of global superstars. He has 12 gold albums and nine platinum or multi-platinum albums, including the triple platinum “This Time”. Five of those albums have topped Billboard’s Country Albums chart with another 14 landing in the Top 10. He is a 21-time nominated, 3-time GRAMMY Award winner. This year, in celebration of his critically-acclaimed album, 3 Pears, he received the Artist of the Year award at the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony, the most prestigious award offered by the organization.
His debut album, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., had critics and fans alike taking notice, heralding a new voice that arrived fully formed with no contemporary rival. With those 10 songs, full of twang and truth, Yoakam led the New Traditionalist movement. From the start, it was clear this jaded, often inscrutable troubadour could put a voice to our thoughts, expressing them better than we ever could.
Yoakam’s latest album, “3 Pears,” is a combination of all he has accomplished to date as a recording artist. Produced by Yoakam, the Warner Bros. project includes unexpected collaborations with Beck, who co-produced two tracks, and Kid Rock, who co-wrote the hooky opener, “Take Hold Of My Hand.” A bonus track emphasizes Yoakam’s
ability to work outside accepted parameters, as he fuses the classic intro of T. Rex’s “Bang A Gong (Get It On)” onto a new version of the venerable Johnny Cash standard “Ring Of Fire,” which Yoakam previously covered on Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.
At the core of Yoakam’s creative expression is an unwavering desire to articulate human connection. His musical, theatrical and entrepreneurial efforts are merely different facets of Yoakam’s singular devotion to discovery of himself and the world in which he lives. As he told Newsweek, “I’m committed to an earnest exploration of life, no matter what medium I’m using.”
