The Law is coming to town.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, representatives of Doge City's new indoor football team officially announced the team's name: The Doge City Law.
The announcement followed a contest held where those interested could submit suggestions for the team's name. Over 1,000 submissions were received. The winner was Adam McElwain of Hays, who received two season tickets in addition to having his selection chosen as the team's name.
“In the old wild west there were bandits, desperados, outlaws and plenty of lawless bad guys so it's only fitting that we be called The Law since we pan to lay down the law in this league!” owner Ricky Bertz said in a news release.
The team's colors are graphite, yellow and silver and the team's logo is reminiscent of a Wild West Marshall's badge with a star that reads “DC” in the center.
Also announced at the conference was the team's new Defensive Coordinator Coach Demetrius Ross.
“Coach Ross brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am really excited to work with him,” Head Coach Sean Ponder said in a news release. “I think his defense will work really well with my offense and we plan on putting one heck of a product on the field come next year.”
At junior college in Walla Walla, WA, Coach Ross earned Region 18 All-American honors. His performance there helped him earn a full scholarship to Boise State University. He then became a Bronco and went on to become 1st Team All Conference and achieve All American status. After college, Ross continued his career in several leagues. He has also coached high school as a Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator. In indoor football, he has been a head coach and also a General Manager and Director of Player Personnel.
The 2014 Dodge City Law season will start the first Saturday in March and continue through the end of June. Season tickets are on sale at the Dodge City Law office located inside the United Wireless Arena at 4100 Comanche Street.
