  • On a cool windy day in Dodge City Kansas helmets collided in a game between the Red Demons and the Hays Indians at Memorial Stadium.  In what started out to be a back and forth game for the first quarter and no points on the board, changed with a team of touch downs and field goals in the second quarter.  First to put points on the board was Hays with a 48 yard field goal making the score 3 – 0.   Dodge answered back with a pass to #32 Blaik Middleton who ran it in for the TD.  With the extra point the score turned to 7 – 3 Dodge City.  Hays answered again in the second quarter with a touch down run by #33 Preston Weigel making the score 10 to 7 Hays.  Dodge was unable to put any points on the board during their possession, giving the ball back to Hays who managed to score a field goal on their next possession making the score 13 to 7 Hays with only a minute fifty left on the clock.  These last two minutes of the 1st half were where fans screamed and sighed with all the excitement that happened.  So with less than two minutes left in the half, The Red Demons handed the ball off to #32 Blaik Middleton who would put them back in the lead with a score of 14 to 13 Dodge City.   The Dodge City crowd was now screaming and jumping for joy.  However trouble struck Dodge on the ensuing kick off, putting a damper on the celebration.  Hays’s #1 Adam Klaus received the ball and ran 80 yards to score for Hays making it 20 to 14 with the extra point and that would be the score at end the half. When the 2nd half started it was ugly for both teams, as each would have interceptions and bad ball control.  It was not till close to the end of the 3rd quarter when Dodge got the ball back and got a much needed pass off to #5 Jace Larson who took the ball to the end zone putting the Demons back in the lead with a 21 to 20 score.  Hays answered back later in the half with a pass interception, and then a carry by #33 Preston Weigel who took it in for the touch down.  Hays went for two and making the score 28 to 21.  Dodge answered back a couple plays later with a pass to #32 Blaik Middleton who fought for his touch down.  With the extra point it put the game tied at 28.  Hays worked magic when they got the ball back using #33 Preston Weigel as their work horse and make a final touch down for Hays making the score 35 to 28. Head coach Dave Foster was disappointed in play and the team’s performance tonight.  “We failed to execute, we played poorly defensively, all around a poor performance.”  With that Dodge takes a loss to Hays tonight and heads to the locker room with hopes of turning tonight’s loss into motivation for a strong representation next week.
