Halloween enthusiasts will have a chance to embrace this season's festivities at Victory Electric with a 7th Annual Pumpkin Painting & Carving Festival taking place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3230 N. 14th Ave.
The event is open to children age 13 and under and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Each child will be provided with a pumpkin. Aside from carving, there will also be pumpkin painting, face painting and games like pumpkin bowling. Each child who attends will also receive a small treat bag. The event is free to the public as long as attendees pre-register. It is held with support from Dodge City Community College, HALO (Hispanic America Leadership Organization) and Ladies Community Outreach.
“It's just an extra event in the community that the kids can come in a safe environment and get a pumpkin and enjoy themselves,” Jerri Imgarten, communications specialist for Victory Electric, said. “There are a lot of kids who don't get pumpkins so this is a chance for them to get a pumpkin and bring it home and have something to be proud of.”
The first Victory Electric pumpkin carving festival was held in 2007. The event was held for the first two years at Dodge City Community College but was then moved to Victory Electric. Children from surrounding towns are expected to attend the event. Last year the festival saw around 550 participants, and this year Victory Electric is preparing for 700.
Children are welcome to wear costumes to the festival. It has been scheduled to also allow children to attend Trick or Treat Downtown.
