  • The Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees held a general meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. At the meeting Michelle Nuss was named Phi Theta Kappa Student of the Month and Maintenance Office Manager Ramona Shean was named DCCC Employee of the Month. Early in the meeting the Board approved the purchase of a 2002 Blue Bird LTC40 bus from Coach Masters. The vehicle was purchased to replace a bus that was damaged when the driver, transporting a group of the college’s football players back from a game, accidentally ran into a herd of cattle in late August. A measure was brought before the Board to purchase new student desks for the Humanities department. The current desks were described as small and being of a “turn of the 20th century” style. The measure passed. A proposal was brought before the Board to double the bandwidth of the campus’ AT&T-managed internet service. Dean of Technology and Distance Education Thad Russell said the move would save the college $22,000 per year. The proposal was passed by the Board. Further improving the college’s internet service, the Board voted to approve the purchase of an Allot Netenforcer AC1440 Router for $19,000. A new e-mail server was also approved. The Board also passed improvements to a Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation Employment policy. The Board completely replaced the old policy and made it more extensive, reducing vagueness and clarifying procedures for both employees and students. The Sunflower Community Garden lease agreement was discussed and the Board passed a measure to bring the garden to a new location. At the end of the meeting Dr. Jeremy Presley, MD of the Family Practice Clinic was appointed as a new member of the Board.
