  • Dodge City Civic Center and Numana-Share the Bounty hosted the meal packing event Saturday. Teams of ten volunteers worked at 25 stations packing rice, soy, beans and vitamins into plastic bags. Cheers rang out each time 36 bags were sealed into a box. The huge gong sounded 22 times as 10,000 meals filled a pallet. The meals are on their way to an orphanage in Haiti. 30,000 meals were donated to Dodge City Salvation Army, Mexican-American Ministries, Manna House and Friendship Feast. Volunteers from Dodge City and surrounding towns came together for the common cause of saving starving people. A church bus from Sublette, a basketball team, Hero Club, Key Club, SADD, boy scouts, girl scouts, classrooms, church youth groups and individuals worked the two hour shift to meet the goal. Local churches, businesses and individuals donated the $55,000 needed to purchase the food and cost of delivery. Southwest Kansas gave generously for the fourth consecutive year to raise the total number of meals packed to 931,200.
