  • The Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees held a regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25. The meeting included several purchases and a budget calendar approval. This month’s Phi Theta Kappa Student of the Month was sophomore Jimena Marrufo. Employee of the Month was Accounts Payable Clerk Pat Sanko. It was noted at the meeting that history professor Steven Haynes was a finalist for dissertation of the year. The board action items began with an approval of the 2014-2015 budget calendar. A lease bid was approved for three vehicles from Magouirk Chevrolet-Cadillac. Also approved were poles and crossarms for the Electrical Power Technician Program. The new poles and crossarms came to a total cost of more than $46,000 and Vice President of Innovation and Workforce Development Danny Gillum said the new equipment would sustain the program for another three to four years. “You have to remember that this is one of our signature programs,” college President Dr. Don Woodburn said. College-funded wireless internet for residence halls through United Wireless Communications, Inc. was also approved. The cost came at just under $11,000 for the fall and spring semester. Previously, students had been contracting wireless internet service on their own. Dean of Technology and Distance Education Thad Russell commented that the change should have already taken place.
