  • Conqs lose to Quakerdale 88-85

  • The Dodge City Conquistadors ran into a hot-shooting Quakerdale Prep squad in losing 88-85 in Saturday's fifth place game of the Coffeyville Resources Elite 8 tournament. The difference in the game was the Eagles' three-point shooting. Quakerdale was 10-of-22 from beyond the arc, while Dodge City made only one of its 15 threes in the loss. Quakerdale shot 31-of-57 as a team, including 17 of their 30 shots after intermission. The Conqs (11-3) lost despite a 26-15 advantage in points off turnovers and 22-4 in second chance scoring. Ameer Jackson scored 26 points to lead Dodge City in scoring, while Larry Beckett recorded his second straight double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Jelani Carpenter added 10 in the loss. Quakerdale had four players score in double figures: Chris Galbreath with 22, Darrion Strong 12 and Thomas Wilder and Thatch Unruh with 11 apiece. The Conqs will face Neosho County in the second game of a basketball doubleheader Friday night at United Wireless Arena.
